Louis Vuitton City Guide Los Angeles 2010 |
“A visit to this Zen lounge is like a visit to a favorite aunt’s abode. In contrast to its stark art gallery neighbors, Skin Haven’s rooms are made homey with Oriental rugs and earthy artwork. Owner Sharon Ronen, a cooking and eco-freak, uses Eminence Organics to whip up body treatments good enough to eat, including wraps in seasonal flavors like summery, slimming blueberry soy. Therapists cluck over guests, hand-writing follow-up notes with instructions to soak tired feet in Epsom salt and consider a deep-tissue massage for desk job stress. Concern over well-being extends to generous 75-minute therapy times, monthly spa happy hours serving mini-treatments and appetizers, and an on-staff chiropractor, holistic nutritionist, energy healer, and even a psychotherapist.”

"To Haven to Hold: Feeling pressured to commit this V-Day? Relax. No, seriously - take your luvah to the übergreen day spa Skin Haven this month and get horizontal on adjacent massage tables for simultaneous, signature rubdowns – a blend of Swedish and Esalen techniques – plus a complimentary foot scrub and massage. Or go for this special combo (discounted for heart day through February): an organic Chocolate Truffle Body Wrap, which had us wanting to eat ourselves, and a Stop & Smell the Roses Facial, which moisturizes using honey and red rose petals. Unlike regular spas, SH uses only organic, paraben-free products like Eminence Organics (Quince and Ice Wine Masque…mmm), Bioelements, and Epicuren…just say, "I do."

"Intelligent...discerning...sophisticated...beautiful. These words went though our head during our visit to Skin Haven, one of the loveliest spas in Los Angeles. American Spa Magazine October 2008 |
From the article titled "Liquid Gold", about the use of olive oil: "Some people might be wary of the service if they knew we were using an olive oil-based cleanser on their face, but we try to educate our clients and explain how the oil is actually beneficial," says Sharōn Ronen, founder of Skin Haven Spa Studio, in speaking about the spa's Signature Facial. Ronen believes introducing olive oil into someone's skincare routine is most easily done with cleansers. "An oil cleanser isn't going to sit on the skin and cause it to break out the way an oil-based moisturizer might because it's going to be washed off."

Skin Haven is listed as one of LA's top spas: "Eco-conscious. Eco-friendly. Eco-chic. Eco is the it phrase these days. Yet, Skin Haven truly is an eco-spa. Owner, Sharon Ronen, built her spa with environmental priorities -- from soy based candles, to online-only brochures, to holistic, organic products, to non-toxic nail care. Upon Stepping over the Skin Haven threshold, guests are asked to remove their shoes to protect the sanctity of the space. The Zen Lounge offers tranquility, tea and tempting nibbles."

"The Los Angeles-based Skin Haven sends out a mini e-blast around the middle of the month to remind clients about its monthly Friday night cocktail lounge event. The spa is careful not to over-saturate its clients’ in-boxes. “I’m sensitive about over-messaging,” says owner Sharōn Ronen. Skin Haven’s e-newsletter has included links to survey questions. Here are two questions Ronen suggests that usually generate responses: Are there any treatments we’re not offering that you’d like to see? How often do you come in and why? “Surveys have been an interesting and useful tool that I can use to base business decisions on,” she says.

"We prefer our spa experiences like our sense of humor: on the dry side. Mercifully, this treatment demanded no showers between unguents. Instead, the therapist layered and removed each element-citrus massage oil, Chinese herbs, and citrus and ginger scented lotion. At the end, we slid into our clothes, our skin perfectly buffed and our blowout intact."

"Tucked behind a gallery on an art-filled stretch of Beverly Boulevard, Skin Haven Spa Studio somehow manages to be both intimate and spacious. There are only 4 treatment rooms here, but everything is on a generous scale, from the oversized relaxation room with it's cushy couches and trickling fountains to the facials, massages, and body wraps themselves, almost all of which run 75 minutes. You can take over the entire spa any day or night of the week with a bridal party as small as three, or spread out into the light-filled courtyard for hors d'oeuvres(vegan or vegetarian if you prefer) or a formal dinner for as many as 150 guests. Add customized touches such as a sushi lesson, a jewelry-making class, or a DJ."

"Hidden behind the Michael Kohn gallery, this oasis is exclusive enough for celebs but comfortable enough for the rest of us.
Skin Haven is like an anti-day-spa spa. It's by appointment only and has only three treatment rooms, so it feels like an exclusive, never crowded, insider's hideaway. The dcor is more organic than the usual faux Zen, with natural wood accents, cool concrete floors, an earthy color palate and a lounge that's as comfortable as a living room. This all directly reflects owner Sharon Ronen's personal philosophies, who traded in the stressful life of a music exec for the more serene scene of skincare. In the treatment rooms, she's like a mad scientist, creating custom-made facials."

Daily Candy May 2005 |
"Who can forget Robert Burns's immortal words: O my luve's like a red, red rose ...
What do you suppose was wrong with her? Broken capillaries? Sun damage? Rosacea?
Age-related skin issues aren't anything new. But these days there's something you can do about it. Check out one of L.A.'s best-kept secrets: Skin Haven. It's a private pampering bungalow that offers what a girl needs most to salvage the soft, supple skin of her youth. Owner and aesthetician Sharon (come on, say it with us: Sha-RONE) Ronen, a refugee exec from the music biz, can guide you back to those days when sun, pollution, stress, cigarettes, caffeine, and hard living hadn't yet taken their toll.
Unlike at other places, you won't see anyone coming in or going out. Ronen focuses only on you and the job of restoring some dermal virginity.
So when someone decides to write a poem about you, you'll be immortalized for something other than your redness."
